1953 No. 001 (2016)

From Couch to Kitchen and Beyond

Ubiquitous, yet elusive. Easily found in the captivity of their care keepers, yet rarely seen in the wild. Powerful, yet graceful. Like the snow leopards of the Himalayas, the 1953 line from Herschberger Watch Co. sets itself apart from others.

Inspired by sport watches, but not satisfied with the available options, Herschberger Watch Co. started by modifying and improving popular dive watches using top-level Swiss movements and Invicta Pro Diver Automatics. What started as a mission to piece together a more unique Black Bay homage with a vintage explorer dial (before the Bronze Black Bay was announced), evolved into 1953.

With over half a dozen creations, 1953 has morphed into a half-fledged brand. Yet 2 questions remain…

First: How do I get my 1953?

Simply put, you ask. Like the Seamaster, but hate the Helium Release Valve and wave dial? We’re right there with you and can create a similar feeling watch. Wish the Black Bay came with a vintage explorer dial in steel? So did we, so we made it. Want a replica or a 1:1 copy of an available watch? Look elsewhere.

If you have an idea, go ahead and reach out - we would love to have you add us to your watch box.*

Second: Why 1953?

For some reason, no one has previously used this historic year to upend the market with their unique, direct to consumer, revolutionary, paradigm shifting watch brand. If you found this site, you probably already know the reason though. 1953 was the year modern (white) humans reached the summit of Mount Everest when Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay carried a Rolex Oyster Perpetual and a Smiths De Lux to the world’s tallest peak. It was also the year that iconic dive watches were released, with Rolex releasing the Submariner, Blancpain releasing the Fifty Fathoms, and Zodiac releasing the Sea Wolf.

At Herschberger Watch Co. we aim to continue the tradition of desk diving watches without the extreme prices and features no one uses. If you’re looking for a deep sea diver, we recommend a computer. If you’re looking for a sports watch while you go throughout everyday life, we might help.

*This is not an offer to sell and 1953 will not accept orders which Tim feels are beyond his current capabilities. If we accept your order, it will be made by Tim and numbered sequentially. Prices and components can be discussed upon contact.
