No. 001 dial (2021)
The never-ending journey of life
Like so many modern watch brands, Herschberger Watch Company started on a journey. Like others in the industry, Tim took an imaginary trip that can only captivate your imagination. Since he didn’t meet anyone in his actual venture from the couch to the kitchen counter and he’s egotistical, he named the watch company after himself.
Not content at cutting out the “middleman” retailers offering grossly inflated works of art, he cut out those who cut out the retailers. But when did this amazing trip around the world (or just a trip from couch to counter) happen? Why would Tim even think of this? We’re sure your mind is full of questions that we will set out to answer.
It was the mid-2010s and Tim lived with his now wife in a small one bedroom apartment. He liked the Invicta Pro Diver automatic he had purchased years ago but found a watch modding thread based on the watch with nearly every poster converting it into a Tudor Black Bay homage. He soon had an idea: swap out the bezel insert for a green insert and ditch the submariner dial for a 3, 6, 9 dial, swap in a flat sapphire crystal, and add a green second hand. Soon, parts and tools were on the way.
After fully butchering the watch, Tim set his sights on making a Swiss ETA 2824 based dive watch. After a long night at the bars, he came home and purchased a blue bezel case, vintage 3, 6, 9 dial, and waited for a masterpiece based on a top level ETA 2824. Shortly after putting together an option not yet available commercially, the Black Bay bronze was announced. Multiple watches, mistakes learned from, and frustrating moments later, Tim found talented dial makers to assist in achieving a higher level of watch and started thinking of brands.
You can read the 1953 story, but Herschberger for Tim's premium offerings simply made sense. The watches are better suited for the courtroom or formal occasion than the bars. To date, every Herschberger watch celebrates a major life moment. Number 001 represents the culmination of nearly a decade of learning and hours of researching. It houses a COSC Sellita SW200. Numbers 002 and 003 celebrate the weddings of Tim and his brother. They house silver dials and ETA 7001 movements in Ickler cases. Numbers 004 and 005 will celebrate the birth of each of Tim’s children with dials representing their birthstones and Sellita movements. No. 006 promises to celebrate another major moment.
Back to that journey... it seems as if it is still ongoing and won’t end for some time. As life would have it, things continue to evolve and people continue to grow. What will come next? We don’t know but are excited to see.
Are you on a never ending journey? We’d love to help mark that special occasion for you. Feel free to reach out and Tim will consult with you if able.
Oh yeah - Tim has met some great people on this journey, but won’t be making his watch brand after them or make up a story to pump his brand.
